Chris' father had always done a small but of contracting and after his semi-retirement he continued this venture and at its peak he would run two tractors and conventional ploughs and anything up to 5 combine harvesters. Chris worked for Agrifarm Machinery and Landpower Ashburton (now Claas Harvest Centre) when he left school but always enjoyed helping his father out on weekends and when time allowed. Chris then attended University in Auckland but would always be home during the holidays and summer break to drive a tractor or combine. After traveling to Ireland to work for a harvest he returned to Methven to work at Wright Farms and the opportunity arose to secure a contract ploughing there if he purchased a reversible plough, this combined with his fathers clients was enough to take the plunge. Chris Woods Contracting was formed in early 2013 with the purchase of a 5 furrow Kverneland reversible plough. Chris is always looking at new cultivation options and believes his business growth is due to having a small operation that focuses on quality. He has since updated to a Kverneland 7 furrow semi mounted plough to cope with demand.
